How the calculation works
Postage: EDDM Retail base rate is $0.207 per piece (USPS 2026). This is a flat rate regardless of piece weight up to 3.3 oz, as long as the piece meets size requirements.
Printing: Cost varies by size and stock. Typical 14PT C2S full-color both-sides: $0.05-0.08 per piece at 5,000 quantity. At 1,000 quantity, per-piece cost climbs to $0.10-0.18 because setup amortizes across fewer pieces.
Mailing prep (Full Service only): When the printer handles bundling and USPS induction, $0.07-0.12 per piece covers labor and induction-point delivery. Retail EDDM (you handle bundling) skips this fee but adds 2-4 hours of your time.
What this calculator does NOT include: Mailing list purchase (EDDM doesn\'t use lists — you pick carrier routes by ZIP), graphic design fees (we have free templates), or sales tax. Add 6-9% for sales tax in most states.
EDDM FAQ
How much does EDDM cost in 2026?
EDDM Retail postage is $0.207 per piece (USPS 2026 rate). Full-service EDDM (where the printer handles bundling and USPS induction) typically adds $0.07-0.12 per piece in processing. Add print cost ($0.05-0.30 per piece depending on size and stock) and total all-in EDDM cost ranges from $0.32 to $0.55 per piece. For a 5,000-piece 6.5x9 postcard mailing, that's typically $1,600-$2,750 all-in.
What's the difference between EDDM Retail and EDDM Full Service?
EDDM Retail means you bundle the pieces (50-200 per bundle), fill out the USPS forms, and drop them at the Post Office yourself. EDDM Full Service means your printer (us) bundles, completes paperwork, and inducts them directly into the mailstream. Full Service costs $0.07-0.12 more per piece but saves a Post Office trip and the bundling labor (~2-4 hours for a 5,000-piece run).
What sizes qualify for EDDM?
Your piece must be larger than 6.125" x 11.5" OR exceed one of those dimensions, and smaller than 12" x 15", weighing less than 3.3 oz. Common qualifying sizes: 6.5"x9", 6.25"x11", 8.5"x11", 9"x12", 11"x14". 5x7 postcards do NOT qualify for EDDM and ship as standard first-class.
Can I target by demographic with EDDM?
No — EDDM goes to every address on a selected USPS carrier route, no demographic filtering. If you need targeting (homeowners over 50, income above $X, etc.), use targeted Direct Mail with a purchased mailing list. Postage is ~2.5x higher ($0.50-0.65/piece) but you control exactly who receives it.
How long does EDDM take to deliver?
EDDM Standard Mail typically delivers in 5-7 business days from USPS induction. Production at our facility is 4-6 business days, so total order-to-mailbox time is roughly 9-13 business days. Plan ahead — EDDM is not for last-minute campaigns.
Is EDDM worth it vs digital ads?
For local geographic targeting in trades like real estate, restaurants, home services, and political campaigns, EDDM consistently outperforms social ads at the same spend. The math: $1,800 buys you ~5,000 physical impressions hand-delivered to mailboxes in your service area. The same $1,800 on Facebook Ads gets you 50,000-100,000 fleeting impressions on phones. Physical pieces sit on counters and tables for days; impressions don't.
