Buying guide
Vinyl banner sizes: 3x6 vs 4x8 vs 4x10 — which is right for your event?
Vinyl banners come in standard sizes that match real-world mounting locations and viewing distances. Pick wrong and you either pay too much for the job or order something too small to read.
2x4 banner — the rare smaller-than-standard
Used almost exclusively for indoor table-top displays or pop-up banner stands. Below 2x4 is rarely vinyl — small banners are usually fabric or printed paper.
**Cost:** $30-50
**Visible distance:** Up to 10 feet (close-range, indoor)
3x6 banner — the workhorse for events
The most-ordered vinyl banner size. Fits standard 6-foot tables for trade shows. Hangs cleanly from a single mount point. Works for outdoor event signage where viewing is from a few car lengths away.
**Use cases:**
- Tournament/event signage
- Storefront sale banners
- Birthday parties, graduations, retirements
- 5K race start/finish line displays
- Booth backdrops at trade shows
**Cost:** $55-90
**Visible distance:** 30-60 feet
4x8 banner — the half-billboard
Half a sheet of plywood. Visible from significant distance. Standard size for construction site signs, sports field signage, and outdoor event banners that need to be readable from across a parking lot.
**Use cases:**
- Construction site identification ("Building Built by [Company]")
- Outdoor concert/festival signage
- High school sports field sponsorship banners
- Political campaign signs (large-format)
- Storefront sale during a sidewalk sale event
**Cost:** $95-145
**Visible distance:** 75-125 feet
4x10 banner — the upgrade from 4x8
20% longer than 4x8, allowing more horizontal text or wider photo. Often used when you have a slogan or full-name banner that needs the extra horizontal real estate.
**Use cases:**
- Long sponsor banners with logos + tagline + URL
- Storefront with longer business names
- Festival sponsor signage with multiple logos
**Cost:** $115-175
**Visible distance:** 80-130 feet
5x10 banner — the freestanding option
Same length as 4x10 but taller, enabling a full-figure portrait or product image without distortion. Often used for outdoor banner stands.
**Cost:** $135-200
**Visible distance:** 80-130 feet
8x10 / 10x20 — the stage backdrop
Used as the main stage backdrop at conferences, weddings, and large events. 10x20 is essentially a wall-sized banner.
**Cost:** $250-450 (8x10), $475-750 (10x20)
**Visible distance:** N/A (closer viewing, designed to be the visual backdrop)
13oz vinyl vs 18oz blockout vinyl — when to upgrade
**13oz vinyl** is the standard for most outdoor event banners. UV-stable, weather-resistant, lasts 1-3 years outdoors.
**18oz blockout vinyl** is a thicker, denser vinyl with no light bleed-through. Necessary for:
1. Double-sided banners (light from behind ruins the rear print on 13oz)
2. High-wind locations (18oz handles wind better)
3. Multi-year installations (18oz lasts 5+ years outdoors)
18oz typically adds 40-60% to the banner cost.
Hems, grommets, pole pockets — the mounting hardware
**Hems:** The edge of the banner is folded over and heat-welded for tear resistance. Standard on all our banners.
**Grommets:** Brass eyelets at the corners (and every 2-3 feet on longer banners) for rope, zip-ties, or carabiner mounting. Standard on outdoor banners.
**Pole pockets:** Sleeves sewn into the top and/or bottom edge for poles to slide through. Used with banner stands and X-frames. Choose pole pockets instead of grommets when using stands.
Wind rating and outdoor durability
Most 13oz banners handle winds up to 40-50 mph if mounted securely with grommets. For coastal, high-altitude, or storm-prone locations, upgrade to 18oz blockout and reinforce the mounting points.
Order 13oz vinyl banners — most common size 3x6 starts at $62.
