Direct mail is the highest-ROI marketing channel for local service businesses and small retailers when the math works. EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) lets you blanket a USPS carrier route with no list purchase — the saturation-mail postage rate is $0.207 per piece in 2026, the cheapest physical media available. Targeted Direct Mail uses a purchased list for demographic precision at higher per-piece cost ($0.50-1.50).

Full-service means we handle everything between your artwork file and the in-home delivery. We print, fold (if needed), bundle into USPS-required stacks, complete the postal forms, and induct directly at the appropriate USPS facility. You provide artwork + selected carrier routes (for EDDM) or a mailing list (for targeted Direct Mail) and the campaign runs.

Use our Direct Mail ROI Calculator to model conversion rates, average sale value, and customer lifetime value before committing to a print run. Most campaigns need to think through repeat-customer revenue to pencil out — first-order ROI alone often makes direct mail look weaker than it actually is.

Buying guide

What to know before you order.

EDDM vs Targeted Direct Mail

EDDM: cheap postage ($0.21/piece), no list required, no demographic targeting. Best for businesses where any household in a geographic area could become a customer — restaurants, gyms, real estate, home services, local political campaigns. Targeted Direct Mail: higher postage ($0.50-0.65/piece) plus list cost ($50-200 per 1,000 names), but you can target by income, age, recent-move status, etc. Best for high-LTV verticals where the targeting math pays off.

Carrier route selection (EDDM)

EDDM mails go to every address on a USPS carrier route. You select routes by ZIP code using the USPS EDDM tool. Typical campaigns cover 5-15 routes (1,500-5,000 addresses) within a 1-3 mile radius of the business. Route selection matters — neighborhoods with higher owner-occupied rates and matching demographic profiles convert better than transient apartment-heavy routes.

Variable-data printing for personalization

For targeted Direct Mail (not EDDM, which is uniform), variable data printing lets you personalize each piece: "Dear [first name], your appointment is on [date]." Upload a CSV with your mailing list and we merge the variables into your design template at print time. Personalized direct mail typically lifts response rates 30-50% vs generic copy.

Timing your campaign

Production 4-6 business days + USPS induction 2-3 days + USPS standard mail delivery 5-7 business days = roughly 11-16 business days total order-to-in-home. Plan campaigns at least 4 weeks before your target delivery date. For sequential campaigns (e.g., a 4-touch launch sequence over 90 days), schedule them out: order the second batch when the first is in the mail.

Direct Mail Services FAQ

What's the difference between EDDM and Direct Mail?

EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) is USPS saturation mail — goes to every address on selected carrier routes, no targeting. Postage is $0.207/piece (2026 Retail rate). Direct Mail uses a purchased mailing list for demographic targeting at higher postage (~$0.50-0.65/piece) plus list cost. EDDM is for geographic targeting; Direct Mail is for demographic targeting.

How much does a 5,000-piece EDDM campaign cost?

For 5,000 6.5x9 postcards, 14PT C2S, full-service EDDM in 2026: printing ~$325 + postage ~$1,035 + mailing prep ~$450 = ~$1,810 all-in ($0.36 per piece). Use our EDDM Calculator for exact numbers on your specs.

Can you handle variable-data printing for personalization?

Yes — upload a CSV with your mailing list (name, address, custom fields) and we merge it into your design template. Common use cases: appointment reminder postcards with patient name and date, real estate just-listed mailers with neighborhood-specific photo, dental new-patient cards with personalized offers.

How long does an EDDM campaign take from order to delivery?

Production 4-6 business days + USPS induction 2-3 days + USPS standard mail delivery 5-7 business days = roughly 11-16 business days total. Plan at least 4 weeks ahead of your target in-home date. Rush production is available to compress the production phase to next-business-day, but USPS delivery time is fixed.

Do I need to bundle the pieces myself?

No — full-service means we handle all bundling and USPS paperwork. For EDDM Retail (you handle bundling), printing-only is cheaper but adds 2-4 hours of your labor per 5,000 pieces, plus a trip to the Post Office.

Can you target specific demographics with EDDM?

No — EDDM goes to every address on a carrier route, no demographic filter. If you need demographic targeting (homeowners over 50, businesses with 10+ employees, recent movers, etc.), use targeted Direct Mail with a purchased list. We can recommend list brokers for specific demographic targets.
