The complete guide to flyer paper stocks

Flyer paper stock changes how your flyer feels in someone's hand — which changes how seriously they take it. Here is the full breakdown of options.
70lb Uncoated Text The cheapest option. Feels like printer paper. Use for: short-life pieces (one-day event flyers, internal handouts) where cost matters more than perception. Drops in price by 25-30% vs 100lb stocks.
100lb Gloss Text The standard. Smooth, slightly shiny, holds color well. About 60% of all flyer orders use this. Good for: retail promotions, restaurant menus, real estate "Just Listed" pieces, event marketing.
100lb Matte Text Same thickness as 100lb gloss but no shine. Reads more upscale. Easier to write on. Use for: professional services flyers, wedding invitations, museum/gallery announcements.
100lb Gloss Cover Twice the thickness of 100lb gloss text. Feels like a postcard, not a flyer. Use for: high-value handouts where you want the recipient to keep it (door hangers, gift card flyers, premium menus).
14PT C2S Cover Heaviest. Card-stock feel. Doubles as a postcard, business card, or small poster. Use for: real estate "Just Sold" mailers, premium service announcements, save-the-dates.
Cost ranking (5,000 pieces, 4x6) - 70lb uncoated: about $120 - 100lb gloss text: about $160 - 100lb cover: about $220 - 14PT C2S: about $260
Quick rules - If it gets thrown out same day, use 70lb - If it's a default marketing piece, use 100lb gloss text - If you want it kept, use 100lb cover or 14PT - If recipients should write on it, use 100lb matte
